Most homeowners view a pet accident as a surface-level stain. However, as Certified Pet Odor Restoration Specialists, we understand that urine is a complex biological mixture that undergoes a dramatic chemical transformation the moment it leaves the pet's body.
The pH Transformation
In its fresh state, urine is acidic (pH 5.0 to 6.0). As it ages, bacteria begin to feed on the urea, producing ammonia. This causes a "pH Spike" to 11.0 or higher. This caustic alkalinity is what permanently damages carpet dyes and "eats" the carpet backing.
Hygroscopic Salt Crystals
